My perfectionist side gets the best of me from time to time and it made me hesitant to share, but in keeping with the theme, I am forcing myself to share the progress. There are some BIG projects in this room’s future! This is were we spend most of our time as a family. It has SUPER high ceilings which made us fall in love with the house, but sometimes large rooms can be a challenge to decorate. The living room has seen it’s fair share of updates, but this is how it looks today:
One tip for decorating large spaces is to use the appropriate size rug. This one is a 9 x 12 and to be honest, we could use a new one, but this one works for now. Carter and I are campaigning hard for a new dog and you know what that means for rugs… Carter also eats in here quite a bit, so this is the one that will probably be here for the foreseeable future. That said, if I have a few too many drinks one night and hop online, that is subject to change 😉
Believe it or not, the coffee table was a full size dining room table that my Grandfather built for my Granny as a wedding gift around 75 years ago. My Granny gave it to my parents before I was even born and it’s where our family shared all of our meals when I was growing up. By the time my parents gave it to us, it had seen better days and it was super squeaky. It has tons of sentimental value, but it didn’t work as a dining table in our home so we cut it down and it is the PERFECT coffee table for our family. My hubby, the Lumberjack added some new wood at the top of the pedestal and now, it’s silent and steady. We play games, do puzzles and still eat our fair share of meals at this table. I absolutely love that Carter will have family memories at this table and it feels like a great way to honor my Grandparents.
Eventually, I would like to change out the sconces and add a frame to this artwork. I am also planning to add moulding all the way to the ceiling on the fireplace wall and paint it dark to tie in with the dining room makeover. Sit tight, I can’t wait to get those projects started and I promise to take you along for the ride!
The super high ceilings and large windows keep the room a little warm in the summer and cool in the winter, but I wouldn’t trade them, because I LOVE all of the natural light. That said, taking a good picture is not so easy for this novice photographer 😜
Am I the only one with a never ending list of “someday” projects? Which living room project should I tackle next? Let me know in the comments and it might be my next DIY post.
