Whoop whoop, it’s week 3 of the One Room Challenge and I am back to it! Unfortunately, I was out of commission last week. I had a tonsillectomy and it kicked my butt, ouch!
Anyway, it’s a good thing I started on the bathroom before I had surgery. The board and batten trim was way easier than I expected, in fact, it took longer to make up my mind about the size of the battens than it took to cut and install them. As usual, I wish I had done the project years ago!
I decided to use 3” lattice molding instead of 1”x3”s because I didn’t want to remove the baseboards and I didn’t want the B&B to protrude past the existing moldings. There are TONS of tutorials for board & batten on Pinterest so I’m not going into the details. I used a nailgun to install it and I did not use liquid nails. I hope I don’t regret that decision, but my husband hates the stuff and he has me worried that it will ruin our walls.
The next step was caulking all of the joints. This was the hardest part, and that’s not saying much 😜 I used my finger to spread the caulk because I think it’s easier to get a clean line than using a tool, but the edges of the molding gave me a couple of cuts, so I probably should have used the tool. Oh well.
And, ta-da! The B&B installation is finished! I will add a piece of molding to the top of the battens after I finish installing the wallpaper.
The next step was to paint and prime. I decided to spray everything in order to get an even finish and it went really fast. The only bad part about spraying is all of the prep. The color is Denim from Sherwin Williams. It is a little tough to get good photos in this tiny room, but here it is with paint.
Thankfully it was a productive week and I was able to get caught up! There is still lots more to go, but I think I’m back on track.
Here is my to-do list for the powder room:
Install board & battenCaulkPrimePaint- Install wallpaper
- Install crown molding
- Paint light fixture
- Hang light fixture
- Replace sink
- Install faucet
- Accessorize
Okay, that’s a lot of projects! What do you think, will it come together on time? Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Remember to follow along with all of the participants at The One Room Challenge. There are so many amazing projects happening and I love seeing everyone’s progress.
