Last week was HUGE! The powder room is actually starting to look like a normal room with only a couple of weeks to go in the One Room Challenge. I new I had to get things somewhat “complete” and functional because we were having our neighbors over for a small adult Halloween party on Friday. Nothing like a good deadline to get things moving!
If you need a reminder of where the powder room started, check out these posts: Week 1 | Weeks 2 & 3
After lots of hard work, I was able to complete the wallpaper, trim and accessories early and remove all of the construction stuff before Friday. Here’s a rundown of everything that happened last week:
Step 1: Wallpaper, jeez I was nervous! It took more time for me to psych myself up to apply each piece than it should have. The room took me about a day to wallpaper, but I should have been able to do it way faster. Oh well, recovering perfectionist here, and I really wanted it to look great! The wallpaper I used was Feather Flock in Denim from Tempaper. They have tons of styles of peel and stick wallpaper and I fell in love with this one.
Fortunately, with a squeegee and a whole lot of patience, it all came together and I am super happy with the end result.
Step 2: Finish board and batten trim. This step sounds easy, but it gave me some trouble. Prior to this project, I have never done beveled cuts on moldings, those have always been left to the Lumberjack and I stick to painting. It took about 3 pieces of trim for me to get the hang of it, but it was cheap so I got lucky.
Step 3: Paint, paint and more paint! Is the painting step ever really finished? Not on my projects… I painted the molding to match the B&B and I took a chance and spray painted the accessories I already had. I used my favorite gold spray paint on the toilet paper holder, outlet covers and light fixture. I also added a matte finish clear coat to give it a bit more durability. Hopefully it will last, but if not, it cost less than $10 instead of $50+ for new accessories.
I am getting so excited, it’s almost complete! I can’t wait for the new sink and faucet, those will complete the look and I will be doing a happy dance! Thanks for reading, I hope y’all have a great week!
